Historically Christians in America, especially pastors, have been the protectors of our society. In the past they were actually the politicians, or they were heavily involved in the election of truly righteous leaders through their fiery sermons. However, within the last 50 years, there seems to be much confusion over the believers' role in the governing of the nation.
"And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come." Luke 19:13 (KJV)
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." Matt. 28:19-20 (KJV)
"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." Matt. 5:13 (KJV)
Occupy, teach, and salt are all words instructing Christians to be heavily involved in shaping and influencing their society. Romans 13 even warns governments that there is a "higher power" or authority, which is God, and government officials need to enforce the morality and justice of God. Christians are supposed to hold the politicians accountable and vote them out of office if they do not comply; not just sit back, pray, and comply with their ungodly laws such as abortion, homosexuality, or same-sex marriage, which Scripture condemns. Christians in America who refuse to speak up are as guilty as the Christians in Germany who said nothing when the Jews were being sent to their death.
"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same." Rom. 13:1-3 (KJV)
Too many Christians in Germany under Hitler kept silent, which allowed World War II and the following genocide to take place. Cowardly Christians use Romans 13 out of context to justify their failure to stand up to evil. All of the prophets and apostles throughout the Bible confronted evil governments and cultures. Some examples are Jonah, Joseph, Moses, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Queen Esther, Elijah, Isaiah, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, John the Baptist, Jesus, Paul...the list is long.
President Barack Hussein Obama embraces all religions, abortion, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and a one-world government. He is an enemy of Israel, demanding that they give back the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Obama mocks the teachings of Jesus and His morality. My constant prayer is for Obama's salvation or that God will let Psalm 109:8 come to pass: “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” If we lose our freedom in America, it will be the Christians' fault!
"But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man." 1 Cor. 2:15 (KJV)
Yes, pastors are meant to be protectors and to use good discernment and judgment against wicked politicians and their policies. They should not be weak, politically correct, intimidated cowards who judge nothing, but only want to survive. America needs a great awakening/reformation with fiery sermons from leaders from the past like Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, Charles Finney, Dwight Moody, Billy Sunday, and John Wesley. Let pastors/watchmen today preach Edwards' sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”, and lead this nation back to morality and sanity where God can once again bless this nation!
