2 Kings 17:1-12 talks about the captivity of the ten tribes of Israel to Assyria and the ten sins for which Israel was taken into captivity. In verses 13-18 we read where God tried pleading with Israel, but Israel only became more hardened in her heart, committing 18 sins for which she was finally judged. We also read in verses 19-20 that Judah also finally fell into captivity for her sins. Our God is a God of mercy and grace. Yes, the love of Jesus Christ is eternal; yet this very love finally demands justice and punishment for the nation of Israel.
2 Kings 17:21-24: 21For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin. 22For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them; 23Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day. 24And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
We see that God finally did judge Judah, though they had a reprieve because 8 out of 20 kings were somewhat godly and brought periods of revival. The “cup of iniquity” principal always takes its course; once the cup is full, God, out of his mercy and justice, has to judge that person or nation. First, the apostate 10 tribes went into captivity, and then Judah did approximately 133 years later because Judah went deeper into sin. Thus, all tribes of Israel were in captivity to the Babylonians as they had overthrown the Assyrian empire and consequently ruled all the countries where the tribes were scattered.
2 Kings 17:25-33: 25And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them. 26Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land. 27Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land. 28Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD. 29Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt. 30And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, 31And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. 32So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. 33They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.
Here, by sending lions, God caused the people of Samaria to recognize His power and they feared Him. But fear and miracles alone do not cause people to worship/serve God. Remember the people of Israel in the wilderness after Moses led them out of Egypt. The tremendous 10 plagues attacking the 10 gods of Egypt showed Pharaoh that Moses’ God was more powerful than his gods, yet this did not cause Pharaoh or the people of Egypt to worship Jehovah. Neither did it cause the majority of the new nation of Israel to serve God as they continued to constantly rebel against the leadership of Moses. Both in Egypt and in the wilderness the people of Israel saw God’s awesome power as He defeated their enemies, divided the sea, provided food, water and clothing for 40 years, etc., yet these miracles did not create saving faith. Jesus performed many miracles over the three years of his public ministry, but that did not create saving faith as most followers left Jesus and the crowd called for his death. Judas walked with Jesus, seeing the miracles daily, but still betrayed him. Lucifer lived in heaven with Jesus, witnessing His power, but still led a rebellion against Jesus Christ. In all of these beings, witnessing the power and miracles of God did not create saving faith; it did not create loyalty. And because of the rejection of all of the opportunities these people, and even Lucifer, were given to submit their lives to the will of God which brings peace and joy to the world instead of anarchy, rebellion, poverty and death, God had to judge these beings.
Some people do not understand the sad saga of the American Indian. Yes, it is true they were betrayed and treated inhumanely as we broke one treaty after another with the Indian. But, I believe, as do some other Christian historians, that they were also being judged by God as their own cup of iniquity was filling up and over flowing. Please refer to earlier articles in this series for explanation of the “cup of iniquity” principle. Peter Marshall and David Manuel write about this in their book, The Light and The Glory. As you read their comments, I think it will shed some light on the demonic behavior, as well as demonic possession, of which I believe some Indians were guilty.
“Captured... when a war party fell upon the Huron towns in which they were serving, he [Father Brebeuf] was subjected to every satanic torture which his captors could devise. And there could be little doubt of the source of their inspiration, when one considers the nature of the tortures or the intensity of pleasure the Iroquois derived from leisurely inflicting them. For the myth of the noble savage was just that: a myth, created a century later by romantic English poets and artists who had never crossed the ocean themselves, let alone witnessed the horrors of tribal warfare and custom. The lives of these Indians were an unending tableau of fear and hatred of other tribes, and a dawn-to-dusk struggle for survival. The first Iroquois torture was to pour boiling water over Father Brebeuf’s naked body, in mockery of the Sacrament of Baptism. When, by the grace of God, he denied them the pleasure of hearing him cry out in agony - for the pain of their victims was intoxicating to them - they tied a collar of metal hatchets, heated red-hot, around his neck. Again, Father Brebeuf disappointed them, and so they fastened a belt of birch bark, filled with pitch and resin, around his waist and set it afire. And still he remained dumb before his tormentors, his face set like flint. Now Father Brebeuf did speak, but not in anguish. He called out encouragement to his fellow captives. Enraged, the Indians cut off his lips and tongue and rammed a hot iron down his throat. Then they cut strips of flesh from his arms and legs and devoured them before his eyes. But as he was dying, Father Brebeuf was gaining the victory, just as had his Savior on the cross before him, and the Indians sensed it. In the end, they cut his heart out and ate it, and drank his blood, in the hope that they could thus gain the spirit power that had given him more courage than any man they had ever seen...” (pp.76-77)
Did you read carefully the purely, I believe demonic, torture these Iroquois inflicted upon this Christian man? The Bible tells us clearly that when man continues to reject the spirit of Christ, which is what makes man in the image of God, then man becomes a beast and can maim, rape, plunder and kill his fellow man. Consider the beastiality exhibited in Rwanda during the satanic rampage of genocide when over one million people were slaughtered like animals. People would run into the churches for safety but, instead, many pastors or priests would lock the doors, and call the soldiers who would kill every man, woman, and child in the sanctuary. If a woman was pregnant, the soldier would cut her from top to bottom, taking the baby out of the womb and throwing it against the wall, dashing it to death. This is nothing short of demonic behavior exhibited by people who have rejected the spirit of Jesus Christ; they have been given over to a spirit of deception so they can believe a lie and become a beast in their heart. Please read Romans 1.
“The Indians tore out their captives’ fingernails with their teeth, gnawed their fingers, and cut off a thumb or forefinger of each. Father Jogues was not killed outright, but kept as a slave for the purpose of their future enjoyment through torturing him - torture so cruel that he longed for Christ to release him from life and let him be with Him in heaven.” (ibid p.77)
Do you see the demonic hatred exhibited toward this Christian because he is a part of the seed of Christ? This is why the prophet Isaiah warned us that if God did not judge, the innocent would become prey to those around them. This is purely barbaric, cannibalistic behavior and mentality. This is Satan exhibiting all his characteristics through these living Iroquois. The white man is not innocent, and as God told the nation of Israel in Deuteronomy 9: 4-5, “Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the Lord thy God hast cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the Lord hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee. Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprighteousness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” But I believe that the Native Americans’ continual worship of false spirits, etc., is why God finally allowed the white man to take over their land and conquer them as a nation.
Yes, the white man is also guilty of sin and his cup of iniquity is becoming full and is running over. I believe God is now dealing with America as a nation that needs to turn back to Jesus Christ to stop the evil that our enemies are planning against us so that God Himself can fight our battles and protect America. Amen and amen!
Now let us read some more accounts, according to Marshall and Manuel in their book, From Sea to Shining Sea, of the behavior that finally consummated in the cup of iniquity running its course to the destruction of the Indian freedom as they knew it before the white man came.
“If your house did come under attack and no chance to escape presented itself, you had better go down fighting than be taken alive. The savagery of the Indians to their captives was so horrible that if many diaries and published narratives of those who did manage to escape did not document it, in this modern age none would believe the truth. For the Indians were accomplished masters at inflicting physical and psychological pain up to the threshold of consciousness, then backing off just enough to keep the victim from merciful unconsciousness or insanity. Periodically, they would let him rest, for they felt cheated if their victims died too soon. Skilled torturers could skin their victims alive and then carefully filet them, with captured friends or relatives forced to watch, as they prolonged life for hour after hour of sobbing, shrieking agony. That the Indians derived such pleasure from the pain they thus inflicted was nothing short of satanic. Indeed, some of the accounts are so gruesome they make modern methods of torture seem almost humane.” (pp. 56-57)
I believe the author is convinced of the satanic inspiration of these Indians’ hatred and behavior toward their victims. Yes, I truly believe a man made in the image of God can turn into an intelligent beast full of demons, capable of doing anything that is imaginable. This is the explanation of all the evil actions of men today that are plundering and raping people around the world in the wars and genocide. Man is ruling the world today, so we cannot blame the insanity on God. It is man who is responsible. But Jesus Christ is going to return to rule and reign after the battle of Armageddon, finally bringing a thousand years of peace (Revelation 20:1-6).
Now let us continue to read examples of how man can, through the beast spirit, inflict pain and death upon his fellow human being! In the book From Sea to Shining Sea Marshall and Manuel write: “One of the milder ones is the account of Thomas Baldwin, who lived in west Kentucky, in the spring of 1791: They now appeared almost daily in still greater numbers, in view of our little settlement, and the more to provoke us they amused themselves by brandishing their scalping knives and imitating the dying groans of such of our unfortunate friends as had fallen into their hands, and on whom, in all probability they had, in their last moments, inflicted the most savage cruelty. Baldwin and his family were subsequently attacked in their home by a band of Indians, who set their roof afire and then slaughtered his wife and son and daughter, as they fled the flames. He himself, another son, and a daughter were taken prisoner. He and his daughter were forced to watch his son be burned alive at the stake, and twice when he passed out they threw water in his face so he would not miss the “enjoyment” of his son’s agony. After his son finally died, the Indians got drunk, and Baldwin was able to escape, but he could not rescue his daughter. He came back for her with a posse, but was unable to find her and learned later that she had died in captivity... In the seven years after 1783, no less than 1,500 men, women, and children were slaughtered in Kentucky alone. When a treaty was attempted with the Indians at the Miami River in western Ohio, the Indians’ request for thirty days to think it over was granted. They made good use of the time; they killed or captured another 120 people, slowly roasting several alive. When two more federal representatives were sent to talk with them, the Indians pretended to negotiate with them, and when the agents relaxed, they murdered them.” (pp. 56-57)
Can you imagine watching your family being tortured, killed and eaten? Is this human behavior or behavior influenced by evil spirits? Is this man made in the image of God, or a beast’s characteristics? Now maybe you get some idea of what the antichrist, who is demon possessed, will do to all those who oppose his reign. He will, as a callous, emotionless animal/beast, pass judgment upon his fellow inhabitants of the earth. Read Revelation chapter 13.
Let us read a few more examples from Marshall and Manuel’s book, The Light and the Glory, of behavior of men who turned themselves into beasts by rejecting the love of God and hating their fellow man because of pride and unforgiveness.
“But the dream turned to a nightmare when finally they reached La Navidad. Every one of the thirty-nine colonists had been killed - some by each other, most of them by tribes of Indians other than those they had befriended. When they found Indians who were not too frightened to talk to their interpreters, the story finally came out. No sooner had the Nina departed the year before, than the men had started indulging their lust with Indian women. Nor were they satisfied with one each, but took as many as they could get. No longer did they barter for gold. They simply seized it, doing violence to any Indians who protested. Quarreling among themselves and killing one another, they had split into factions, and were thus easily ambushed and overrun. There was no doubting the truth of the tale that they were able to piece together. From then on, Columbus’s men detested the Indians, whom they regarded as lying and devious, and against whom they constantly sought opportunities for revenge. It was only with threats of capital punishment that Columbus was able to prevent a bloodbath. The Admiral’s own authority had been seriously undermined. His men were increasingly rebellious, having lost all respect for this grandiose, mercurial Italian, who had lied so blatantly about the gentleness of the Indians and the abundance of gold. Columbus chose not to see many of the things that were going on. He turned his back on their taking native women for their pleasure-anything to appease, to avoid open confrontation. (But this unbridled lust and rape was to receive its own uniquely fitting punishment. For many of the women were carriers of a strange and deadly disease which would become known as syphilis, and the men thus infected were sentenced to a lingering, excruciatingly painful insanity and death. The sailors returning from this voyage introduced this new plague to Spain, whence it was shared with the rest of the civilized world). (pp.57-58)
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Science of Cause and Effect is a rule and law, created by God Himself, that controls the orbits of the planets, the movement of electrons, the behavior of chemical substances, etc. We need to understand the laws (the rules of design) for prophecy and judgment. Once we understand these God-given laws that govern mankind which prevent the entire world from ultimately being tormented forever by an eventual world tyrant, then we can recognize it as “The Science of Judgment.” This law is, I believe, truly scientific as one can study the rise and fall of nations and leaders of nations, as well as the daily events that ultimately shape a person’s destiny.
The Scriptures warn us about the “full cup of iniquity” law. When God’s mercy and grace run their course, then God’s anger and wrath boils over, and His judgment starts to fall. Judgment is first meant to lead to repentance (redemption). If the person is beyond redemption, God’s judgment is finally for total destruction. God sends utter destruction upon people and nations when their wickedness takes them beyond redeeming love. There is a point of no return when the unpardonable sin has been committed. Even this is mercy and grace, because if God did not utterly destroy the unrepentant, then the extension of mercy would only allow evil, violence and needless suffering to continue upon the innocent. The principle is simple: God breaks His silence when a person, a city, or a nation reaches a certain level of wickedness, and He uses one or more of His divine judgments. If the situation is redeemable, His judgments are for redemptive purposes. If the situation is beyond redemption (repentance), then His judgments are utterly destructive. THIS IS CALLED, ‘THE SCIENCE OF JUDGMENT’ (2 Chronicles 7: 14).
